I made a download of this template but got a problem with IE 8 as it shows a blue gradient strip under the menu: is it possible to cancel that or, possibly, modify the colour of it?

It is not fully compatible with IE8 because IE8 doesn't support HTML5 elements, when somebody will try to open your site there popup widow should appear with 'out of date' waring message.
