I downloaded and looked through the documentation and am trying to follow it to get my clients site set up just like the demo, but this T3 is very confusing and the documentations seems to be inconsistent with what is actually in the back end. Any help to get the menu up and the grid on the home page would be much appreciated.

Did you install the quickstart package or started a clean Joomla installation? There is a section in the user manual where I have described how each of the five homepages have been created. If you would like more documentation, please send an email to the address provided in the template user manual.
