The installation using quick-start package is a completed new installation, after installing the package you will not have the content from your previous installation, our suggestion is make backup or copy and save the articles content as text documents on your PC.
After installing the package you will need to install multilingual support, French package in your Joomla admin panel -> System -> Language Manager.

I see the update is actually a full new version; what happens with my content and settings when I turn to this new version?
