Sorry to bug ou, but I am trying to establish what needs 'manual' configuration vs what should be easily configurable from within the Template manager. For example, params.php contains variables for 'header_gradient_top_color' which look like they should come from the Joomla admin page, yet no field appears in these pages. I don't mind setting these manually within php files, but it would be good to know which were manually set and which are available for tweaking from within Joomla.

Using the template manager you can config just parameters that you have in the template manager, if you need to change something that you do not see in the manager you have to edit template css files.
I am having problems with the captcha in the contacts form. It onlys shows the text Captcha* but is doesn't show the captcha box where to type the captcha code. When I move my mouse over the Captcha* text it tells me to fill in the exact characters but the characters do not show up. When I display my contact form with another template it shows up correctly. So I think it has to do with the AS template. Please advise.

You can't install quick-start package via Joomla manager, quick-start package already contains Joomla, it should be installed like regular Joomla installation, please see the following page for more info: http://www.astemplates.com/joomla-template-documentation/218-002059
I am trying to create a menu usign a table and image (linked to another articles). But since every image is somehow will have a huge white splace border around it, the menu table (which should have padding and border 0px) become so spacy.
Is there any work around for this?

I know that Google changed the paths. That is not the problem. If I set the template for the contact form to another than the AS002059 template (Protostar Default) the captcha shows up, so the Google code is correct. But when I use the AS002059 template in the contact form it doesn't show up.

We found that Google has changed recaptcha code path and joomla hasn't still fixed this.
Our suggestion is install and use some captcha extension:

When I start to install the sample data .. the installation runs through and go to step 3 (overview) and don´t finish the installation.
