I installed the quickstart and did everything perfectly. When I try to view the back and front end I just get a Fatal Error message. Ive been through all of the Akeeba Backup troubleshooting guide and nothing outlines my problem. How do I get it working. It seems overly complicated just to get sample data on a template

Then, install it via Admin > Extension > Manager > Install, and recheck.
Btw, make sure that you're using PHP 5.6.x or higher.

As we said we are not able to log in to the back end as after log in we just get another fatal error message. So I am not able to install the patch. I installed this on a new clean server, there has go to be an easier way to install sample data. If you are not able to fix the problem I need a refund for this purchase. This is going on to a couple of days now without what we purchased installing correctly.

BTW, can you check what PHP version are you using? I think you're using old PHP version.
Make sure that you have PHP version from 5.6.x or higher to meet system requirement for Joomla 3 https://downloads.joomla.org/technical-requirements
